He spent 13 years as a racehorse trainer at Cool Breeze Stables, developing horses from the ground up and competing at the highest levels. He later served as Equine Unit Manager at North Carolina State University, overseeing the daily management and medical care of up to 60 horses while honing his eye for evaluating temperament, ability, and athletic potential.

Lawson holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from NC State and a certificate in Equine Breeding Management.
